He is coming home, He is coming home!

Dylan and I got the most exciting news today! Daddy is coming home. Casey received his new orders today. I got the phone call at 3:30am this morning. He got new orders for San Francisco, he will be working at a military post office. Not an ideal job, but great hours and we will get to be a family. We are trying to get those orders rerouted to Phoenix but we don't know how possible that is. All that matters is that he is back in the US, the rest we can work out!!

So, since the doctors muttered the D word (Discharge)on Wednesday, things have gone a little backwards with out little Pixie. At her Wednesday night weight check she had lost 40 grams. The doctors wanted to fortify her milk to 22 calories to see if the caloric intake would allow her to gain weight. We didn't want to increase her amount of food, she is already struggling with her 48cc's sometimes, so fortification seemed like the answer. Normal Mother's Breast Milk, also known as MBM is 20 calories. So at last nights weigh in she was down an additional 60 grams. This is puzzling the doctors. Yesterday she did start having some emessis (throw up) about an hour or 2 after feeds. Today they upped her caloric intake on her MBM to 24 to see if this would help. I sure don't know how to increase my calories in the breastmilk, so sometimes I worry that this is just masking a problem and not fixing it. She will be a breastfed baby when we leave the hospital because it is so easy on her stomach, so I fear we run into this again. I had the surgeons consult on the emessis, they stated that she was on an anti-reflux agent in her TPN, and since her TPN was D/C's (discontinued) on Wednesday she has not been receiving it. So they wanted to put her back onto the anti-reflux meds to see if that would help. She received it at noon today and has thrown up at least 5 times since then and threw up 5 times between midnight and the time she received the meds. The nurses said sometimes is takes some time to take effect in the body, so she should stop throwing up soon. This leads to some of the hypothesis on the weight loss. We think she might be loosing weight because she is throwing up so much. A Resident thought maybe it was because she was excerpting too much energy trying to breastfeed. I only breastfed once today and made sure it was after her weight check so that would could eliminate that thought. And lastly there could be the possibility that her intestines are not absorbing nutrients correctly. So, we need to figure this out! Tonight she gained 10 grams, its not much, but it is something, and best of all it isn't a loss!! She did have a big poop right after that, so I have a feeling if she was weighed 2 minutes later we would have been at another loss. But, tomorrow is another day, we will see!!! Keep your fingers crossed.

Thank you for all of your thoughts and prayers. I know that they are the only thing that is putting my family together. I can never say enough thanks! What an amazing Christmas this will be!

Ashley-
You can increase mother's milk by using a breast milk fortifier. We use it on a lot of babies in the NICU whose parents prefer breast feeding to bottle feeding, but you would still need to bottle feed her your breast milk. I'll ask around if there is anything you can take orally that will cross into breast milk...

Ashley!
Oooh my goodness, this is my first time finally getting a chance to post a comment (Sorry, nothing to be proud of) I have wanted to do this so many times before. Anyhow, Dylan is just absolutely beautiful. So petite and tiny....Don't you worry she will be nice and chunky once she's a little older. Daniel was a little over 5lbs at birth and now look at him! Yikes, give it time she will be perfectly happy and will get stronger day by day... We are continuing to keep you in our prayers and rico keeps me up to date as much as he hears from United Mtg. Barbara sends her wishes and always asks how you two /three are all doing. I cannot wait to hear the news when everything is just perfect which will happen very soon, I just know it! Keep your faith and stay positive. Dylan looks delightful and cannot wait to see her when you come home to Arizona as a family. Love ya
